Do you ever wake up heavy — heavy in heart? I can be heavy in heart and not even know why. This morning I knew what it was, but I also knew that dwelling on it wasn’t wise. One of the worst things I can do on these “heavy” mornings is to spend the morning thinking about myself or to dwell on what is — things I wish wouldn’t be.
So I opened my Bible and read for a while, through a few of the psalms and then into the book of John. And there it was, a passage so familiar I tend to gloss over it. I tend to think I no longer need it because I’ve already done it:
“No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6b
Many years ago Jesus brought me back to God. But still today, I’m reminded again and again of how much I need Jesus. He brings me to God. Apart from Him, I could never enter the presence of God. He points me to God. He reveals the glory of God. Through Him, I can see and understand God. Jesus is still my way to God.
I’m reminded of all I have in Jesus, of what we can all have in Jesus:
“To all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.” John 1:12
Jesus makes us children of God. Furthermore, He shows us how to live for God. Spending time with and beholding Jesus transforms / conforms us into the image of God. Jesus is:
Our way, our truth and our life. John 14:6
Jesus is our way to God, the truth of God and our experience of the life of God.
Jesus is our Way — He is our way out of sin, our way into abundant life (John 10:10). We can look to Jesus when we don’t know the way we should go. When we don’t know what to do or what to say, we can ask ourselves: What did Jesus do? What did Jesus say?
Jesus is our truth — He is the Word (John 1:1). The Bible is a compilation of His words. We Don’t have to wonder where to find truth. Everything Jesus said is true. Through the Holy Spirit, Jesus reveals the truth. He tells us how to think and feel rightly, saving us from the consequences of thinking and feeling wrongly. When we follow His truth — know and believe and obey His truth — His truth sets us free to live an abundant life, a life where Jesus is our life.
Jesus is our life: In Him was life and that life is the light of men. (John 1:4). He gave His life so we could have life — eternal life — life with God eternally AND the very life of God in us now. Jesus gives us life as it was meant to be — His life filling our life. His joy becoming our joy. Through His life, His strength, wisdom, righteousness and power become ours.
I’ll ask you questions that I’m asking myself today.
How can Jesus be your way today? How can He shed light on your way? Are you willing to let Him lead the way?
How can Jesus be your truth today? How can you listen to Him? How can His words — even a sentence or two — guide you today?
How can Jesus be your life today? Can you release control of your life and receive a fresh filling of Jesus’ life? Will you surrender to the fact that Christ in you is the only hope of the glory of God shining through you (Colossians 1:27)?
Will you practice Way #42 of 52 Ways to Glorify God? In very specific ways, today and every day:
So good Judy! My heart went out to you on Wednesday because I could see something is troubling you. So I am praying for peace for you today.
Love you,
Janet
Janet, You are so precious. Thank you for your prayers — God is answering. I’m reminded again of the privilege we have to lean into Jesus! He is more than enough!!! Be blessed my friend! I’m so thankful for you.
