I was recently treated to lunch by a precious four year old (and her grandmother). The lunch was a thank you gift for watching their dog and her three doll babies while the family went to Disney World. As excited as she was about meeting the Disney princesses, she had great concern over leaving three of her dolls. I was honored she entrusted them to my care.
Over the past two years I’ve watched this little girl give impeccable care to her dolls. She changes their clothes and diapers regularly. She feeds them, reads to them and is keenly attentive to every need she imagines them to have. It’s a beautiful scene to watch.
Recently, a verse hit me with the fresh, heart-racing affect that Scripture can have: “You are always with me, and everything I have is yours” (Luke 15:31). The words in this parable (spoken by Jesus) were directed to the older son of a man who had just welcomed his younger, rebellious son back home. The older brother was angry at the welcome and lavish celebration his wayward brother had received. The verse above is the father’s loving reply.
Through this parable, Jesus imparted a profound truth to you and I. We are always with Him, and everything He has is ours.
That is impeccable care! We are always with Him. He is always with us! It doesn’t get more intimate than that. In addition, everything He has is ours. This truth is reiterated in Philippians 4:19, “My God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in Christ Jesus.” Who better to know and care for your needs than the One who is always with you? Who better than the One to whom all authority in heaven and on earth has been given (Matt. 28:18)?
This is your inheritance as a child of God! He has spoken, “I WILL supply all your needs.” What needs do you have? What special care are you in need of today? Take God at His Word. Go to His throne of grace:
“Let us then fearlessly and confidently and boldly draw near to the throne of grace — the throne of God’s unmerited favor; that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find grace to help in good time for every need — appropriate help and well-timed help, coming just when we need it.” Hebrews 4:16 (Amplified Version)
