Lodged deep within many of us is a “driver.” It shows up when we can’t let something go. It rises as a need to be heard, a profound need to be understood. As a child, this driver was strong in me. I longed for my parents to hear and understand my point of view. It helped me accept the decisions I didn’t understand when I knew my thoughts had been heard. As an adult, I find it frustrating when my words are misunderstood, or my motives are misinterpreted. Don’t we all long to be understood?
In recent days, I’ve had another driver. I need people to accurately and intimately know God. Most of all, I need them to know Him accurately. Once you know God accurately, you can choose if you want to know Him intimately. I fear that many, MANY people do not know God accurately and therefore choose, based on false information, not to know Him intimately. I fear they’ve misunderstood His words and misinterpreted His actions and motives.
Though the following is far from complete, it’s what I need you to know today.
I need you to know that:
God is not distant, nor is He disinterested in your life.
He’s not cold-hearted. He’s not out to get you. He doesn’t withhold good from you.
I need you to know that:
God loves you. He longs for a relationship with you, but He will not compromise Who He is to win favor with you.
I need you to know that:
God is worthy. He is worthy of your time. He is worthy of your heart.
I need you to know that the cross says a lot about Who God is.
He left the perfection and splendor of heaven to live a fully human life. He gave His life to save your life.
I pray you will know these things, and so much more. I pray you will accurately and intimately know God.
