I struggle to stay in the present moment. I can be one place, but my thoughts can be miles away, or my attention focused a few feet away. Social media has certainly increased the challenge. At the same time I’m hanging out with my family I can “be” in the lives of my friends (and numerous casual acquaintances) through Facebook and Instagram.
The list goes on and on, but I bet you get it. I believe you experience it. I think we all do.
There’s a beauty, an art, of being fully present in the present moment. For all of our attention to be focused on the person or events most central in a given moment.
A while back God took these thoughts to a whole new level with the phrase:
Be present in the present in My Presence
A friend then added to it: It’s a present (a gift) to be present (fully focused and engaged) in the present (immediate moment in time) in God’s Presence.
It truly is an incredible gift. The question is, are we as God’s children opening this amazing, life-changing present?
I’ve been asking myself lately, “What would happen if God’s people lived every moment of every day focused on and aware of His presence? What if I did?”
To experience the answer to that question, I’ve started saying throughout the day, “God, You are here! You are in me. You are with me.” Doing that just this morning, the following list began to flow. In part, I think it was the list I needed for today.
Freedom is here.
Glory is here.
LOVE is here.
Grace is here.
Joy is here.
Peace is here.
Lovely thoughts are here.
Intercessory prayer is here.
Righteousness is here.
Truth is here.
Holiness is here.
Wherever God’s children are, these, and so much more, are already with us. We don’t have to go looking for them, wish for them or even strive for them. They are here because God is with us! And the One who created everything, the All-Powerful One, will, as we ask Him and seek it, keep us in His Presence so we can receive them.
As we receive them, we can then give them. Starting each day as an empty vessel, we can then be filled and poured out, actually pour out Him, according to God’s good pleasure.
I don’t think there’s a better way to live!
